Up til now I didn't realize that the Malnosso could and would bring people like him here, but I guess that was just me being complacent.

My existence predates the creation of the Church of Martel and Cruxis, before the world had been split in two.

Mithos was a kind-hearted, intelligent boy, who wanted to believe in the goodness of people. He was full of idealism, and truly wanted to believe that everyone could have co-existed. In a way, he was not much different from you, Genis.

At that time, Lord Ratatosk was a kinder spirit, like a median between the Ratatosk and Emil that you know now. It is because of that... that he had placed his trust in Mithos and his companions, because he believed in them and their ideals. He assisted them, and even provided them with the Derris Emblem as a sign of his trust in them. However, Mithos had betrayed Lord Ratatosk's trust, as you well know, when he failed to not only revive the Kharlan Tree, but also split the world in two with the power of Origin. After that day, Lord Ratatosk had completely lost his faith in mankind due to Mithos' actions.
